Are you or someone you love becoming the new normal? That is to say, obese?**
Author, Fitness Instructor and Certified Trainer, Ann Rosenstein says you can avoid this fate if you get the facts and ignore the hype. She used her skills as a research librarian when writing the book, Diet Myths Busted: Food Facts Not Nutrition Fiction. She doesn’t promote any particular diet, but instead gives unbiased facts about nutrition to help you get back to a practical way of eating.
All diets work in the short term, Ann says, even the chocolate chip cookie diet (Dr. Nancy’s favorite) because we pay attention to what we eat. But short term diets are not the answer. Total lifestyle changes are required, and not just by us, but also by our friends and family. Apparently THIS takes a village, too.
Ann and Dr. Nancy discuss research that shows we tend to take on the shape of the people we are around most. So if you married the 200-pound gorilla, guess whom you’re going to look like? They also talk about how food manufacturers aren’t in the business of nutrition. To save money on food, Ann urges us to buy 2,000 calories per person, not the 4,000 food marketers suggest. Also, good food naturally tastes good without additives, so she says if the box lists more than a half-dozen ingredients, throw it out!
There’s lots more in this revealing conversation, including how high fructose corn syrup was promoted to help farmers sell their corn during the Nixon administration. And how families that exercise together, live better, healthier lives.
Listen and get going on your fitness plan.
**In case you were wondering, a person 5 feet 5 inches tall weighing 180 pounds has a BMI of 30. Find more straight talk about diet and fitness on Ann’s website, www.dietfitnessdiva.com
